Denver, COOral Health Colorado (OHCO) named seven Oral Health Champions for 2014 at its annual conference in November. These individuals were recognized as instrumental in improving oral health in Colorado.
Senators Larry Crowder (R-Alamosa) and Jeanne Nicholson (D-Black Hawk) and Representative Beth McCann (D-Denver) were recognized as Oral Health Legislative Champions for their leadership and support of bills to expand Medicaid to low-income adults, to add dental benefits for adults served by Medicaid, and to assure that all kids will have pediatric dental benefits with their health insurance plans, regardless of whether their families purchase health insurance inside or outside of the exchange.
Deidre Callanan (CASBHC), Molly Pereira (CDA) and Grace Linn were lauded as Oral Health Champions for their strong, long-standing commitment to improving oral health for all Coloradans. Karen Cody Carlson, former OHCO Board Chair and Executive Director and leader of Smart Mouths Smart Kids was presented with OHCOs Lifetime Achievement Award for her long-standing leadership in the establishing oral health as being integral to a persons total well-being.
